Q: When can we see ReconFIGUREd?
A: ReconFIGUREd had a successful run at The Tank in Manhattan in January 2017. Stay tuned for more information about upcoming productions.
Q: Who is in ReconFIGUREd?
A: The cast of ReconFIGUREd is an incredibly diverse group of women and trans people. We made an effort to find people of as many body types, sexual orientations, gender identities, classes, ethnicities, careers, ages, abilities, and experiences as we possibly could. Of course, our group will never represent everyone, but we hope there are enough different perspectives that it can be the catalyst for many other conversations.
Q: I know ReconFIGUREd is about ‘the body’ but that’s a huge topic, what exactly will it be about?
A: One of the exciting parts of devising is that we don’t actually know what it might be about! But here are some themes that have come up in our rehearsals:
- Invisible disability
- Body-related coping mechanisms (i.e. alcohol, self-injury, anorexia, bulimia)
- The body and gender
- The body and sexuality
- Awesome things the body can do
- …and so much more!
Q: Where is the material coming from?
A: We didn’t start this process with any sort of script or outline. We started with the ideas, experiences and opinions of the 25 individuals in our ensemble, as well as the responses from over 800 people who participated in our online survey.
